Lucie was a bright, joyful little girl. Her parents, Claire and François, never expected their world to shatter on March 15, 2020. What seemed like a mild cold or allergy turned out to be far more serious.

Her breathing worsened, and she grew more tired. Doctors suspected asthma and scheduled tests. But one night, Lucie suddenly stopped breathing. At the hospital, the heartbreaking diagnosis came—acute lymphoblastic leukemia, with a tumor pressing against her lungs. The fight began.

Chemotherapy took its toll. Lucie became weak, lost her hair, and could no longer speak. Her parents stayed by her side, whispering lullabies through endless nights. Amid the suffering, one nurse made all the difference. Sophie, quiet and gentle, brought comfort in ways words could never express.

One evening, Claire captured a quiet moment: Sophie adjusting Lucie’s IV and humming softly. She later wrote:
« I see you, Sophie. I see your gentle hands, your eyes filled with compassion. I see you whispering, ‘I’m sorry, sweetheart,’ trying not to hurt her. »

« I see you staying late, smoothing her sheets like a mother would. You’re more than a nurse. You’re a guardian angel. »

On September 18, Lucie passed away in her mother’s arms. Sophie, though not on duty, came to say goodbye.

« To those who care for our children as if they were their own—we see you. We will never forget you. »
